"WHAT IS STRAIGHT? A LINE CAN BE STRAIGHT, OR A STREET, BUT THE HUMAN HEART, OH, NO, IT'S CURVED LIKE A ROAD THROUGH MOUNTAINS"- Things have unfolded differently than we had expected... and now we have a second family to help in Guatemala. Last week Victor and a local attorney visited Juana's village, planning to complete the land purchase and finalize plans for building, but instead they learned that Juana is not ready to receive the gift of a new home. We don't fully understand the situation just yet, though we hope to have more insight in coming weeks, but we are prepared to wait as long as she likes. For now, we'll set up a local fund to take care of the family's needs, so they will not worry for food, supplies or access to school, and we'll have someone check on them regularly. We hope and trust that Juana will eventually decide to move forward, and we are committed to building her home as soon as she does. The funds we are committing will go a long way to improving the family's quality of life.
However: We are continuing with our plans to build a home in Guatemala this August! Having heard the story of Juana's decision, one of the agencies we've been working with in Guatemala introduced us to Estela, a very needy (and very young) widow with small children. They currently live with 11 other people in a one-room shack and are eager to change their conditions. We have committed to build her a home while we wait to do the same for Juana.
